Lacrosse Falls to Babson in NEWMAC

Smith Lacrosse fell to Babson College Saturday, ending the match with a 19-7 loss. The NEWMAC game brought the team’s NEWMAC record down to 1-2 while the team maintained a season record of 6-5.
Babson had an early lead over Smith, with a goal by Babson’s Colleen Mulligan in the first minute. Four more goals followed from Babson players Jameson Spang, Taylor Kralovenec and Misha Beatty before Smith’s Mckenzie Hessel ’15 brought in Smith’s first score of the game.
Meaghan Fileti ’12 scored a free position tally goal that brought the lead down to 6-2, but Smith was eclipsed by three more goals for Babson during the half. Babson maintained a 9-3 lead into halftime.
Babson continued its lead in the second half with eight consecutive goals. Two by Kralovenec, brought the team’s advantage to 17-3. Smith responded with a three-goal attempted comeback, beginning with Fileti, and continuing with Petru Bester ’15J and Hessel before Babson took home the 19-7 win.
Goalkeeper Alina Pechacek ’13 made 10 saves for Smith, keeping Babson’s lead at 19. Babson’s Julie Baharestani made 12 during the game. Babson outshot Smith 35-28.
With a 13-9 win over Mount Holyoke College Tuesday, Smith stands at 2-2 in NEWMAC. Smith will compete against Wellesley College on April 14.
