Tuesday, April 25, Senate met for its last meeting of the year. Senate began by passing updates to the charters of these orgs: Lifeguards (Synchronized Swimming), Smith College Athletic Association, Prism, Ice Hockey and Gender Action Advocacy Alliance. Senate next chartered for the first time the Best Buddies organization, which seeks to connect Smith students with intellectually disabled community members. The charter for the American Choral Director's Association was not passed, but Senate formed a small ad-hoc committee to make recommendations to the group. The recommendations will include senators' reasons as to why the organization was not chartered, and thoughts on how the org could become chartered in the future. The committee members are Sara Whiting and Kelly Johnson.
Senate held its own elections for next year. The 2006-2007 Senate Parliamentarian will be Marlowe Dieckmann and Senate Secretary will be Channa Heng. Five senators were also elected to sit on ORC next year. These senators are Caitlin Bates, Reiko Asaga, Sairah Joseph, Melanie Jaskolka and Danielle Schmandt. Senate continued tonight with its annual turnover. Meg Ambrus handed off the meeting to next year's SGA Vice President, Mary Opler. Opler led the rest of the meeting and Senators discussed goals for next year.

The committees that students can join are listed on the voting web site at www.smith.edu/voting. Students can sign up for interview times in the SGA office before this Friday, April 28.
