Ben Lee, originally discovered by Sonic Youth will headline the Rec Council's Spring concert on May 2nd.

Next Tuesday, May 2, at 8:00 p.m., the Rec Council will hold its first "RecFest," a concert featuring three different names in the business. The event, held in the Campus Center Carroll Room, promises Ben Lee, State Radio and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Ben Lee is the headliner and therefore will appear last. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals will open the show with a blend of funk, gospel and rock. They hail from nearby Vermont, and the lead singer, Grace Potter, has been compared to Janis Joplin. They have previously toured with the Dave Matthews Band, Taj Mahal and Trey Anastasio.

State Radio comes from Massachusetts and is known for mixing progressive politics with rock, punk and reggae. On Februrary 7, 2006, they released their first album, "Against the Crown," which explored a range of social justice issues.

Ben Lee is originally from Sydney, Australia. He joined his first band, Noise Addict, when he was 14. Sonic Youth and the Beastie Boys discovered the band and their reputation began to spread. Lee eventually began a promising solo career. His most recent album, "hey you. yes you," was released in 2003 and received praise from Rolling Stone.

Tickets for the RecFest are currently on sale in the campus center and cost $10 for Smith students. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. on May 2, but the show starts at 8:00 p.m.
