It was a busy meeting for Senate this week as a result of the semester coming to a close. Senate heard from seven organizations hoping to be chartered or update guidelines for next year, and voted on a presentation that was heard last week. The update to the Celebrations Dance Charter was passed this week. The seven orgs that Senate heard from this week will be voted on next week.
The groups Senate heard from included Gender Action Advocacy Alliance, the group currently referred to as Tangent, which would like to update its charter. Another group, Best Buddies, is a program linking college and high school students with area children, and is hoping to receive funding for activities. Ice Hockey joined ACAA and now plays in organized competition, added a coach, and is trying to adapt to reorganization under athletics. Lifeguards Synchronized Swimming Club changed the secretary position and the responsibility of the president in the absence of a coach. Prism changed its distribution of positions. The Smith College Athletic Association is trying to create better accountability for positions and rearrange responsibilities. Finally, the American Choral Director's Association is an association for people interested in conducting and, like Best Buddies, is also hoping to become chartered for the first time.
Senate continued to plan for a Dining, Health and Nutrition Forum to happen in the beggininng of May. This will be very exciting, because Senate does not usually meet this late in the year. Dates and guest speakers are still tentative, but keep your eyes peeled for advertisements.
Many candidates for the ongoing spring SGA elections introduced themselves at Senate tonight. Students should remember that voting has started. The polls will be open until 5 p.m. on Friday, and all students are encouraged to vote. The voting site is www.smith.edu/voting.
