Despite the cold temperatures, eight teams competed in the Paradise Playoffs on Saturday, April 8, 2006, which were hosted by the Smith Ultimate B-team. The tournament was deemed a success as Tournament Coordinator Emily Floyd '09 reflected that "teams appreciated having a B-Tournament." The Smith team, which refers to itself as the Lunadiscs, came in sixth overall despite two close matches against Tufts and Dartmouth.

After a slow start against Colby and Amherst, Smith pulled ahead for the first time in the tournament against Tufts. Following a Tufts turnover in the end zone, Shanti Freitas '08 received a short pass from Co-Captain Rachel Love '09. There was also an outstanding performance from Vicky Chan '09: While on defense, she successfully knocked down a pass between two opponents, known as a d-block, thereby returning possession to Smith. With that possession, Chan was able to receive a pass from Co-Captain Caitlin Burgess '08 to move the score to 4-1. With Smith winning 6-5, the hard cap was put on, meaning that the first team to seven would win. Unfortunately, Tufts managed to score a point, tying the score at six. However, Smith held on. When an attempted throw by Burgess to cutter Chan strayed due to the wind, Maura Shea '09 caught the pass, enabling Smith to win 7-6.

The team proceeded to the consolation bracket and played Dartmouth College. Smith led 7-5 when the hard cap was put on. This meant that the first team to seven would win. Similar to the Tufts game, Smith allowed Dartmouth to score one more goal. Then, in a truly remarkable team effort, Love passed to Lauren Kvalheim '08 who passed to Freitas for the final point.

During this same round of play, Merilie Reynolds '08, a Smith ultimate player known better to her teammates as "Captain Braveheart," rolled her ankle. Reynolds was one of two Smith players playing for Hampshire College as a favor because the Hampshire team, known as the Red Scare, was short on players due to injuries. Reynolds was taken to get her ankle x-rayed. Hampshire ended up coming in second in the tournament. Other Smith injuries included Stephanie Moore '07 pulling her hamstring during the match against Amherst. She was out for the rest of the tournament.

Smith went on to play in the consolation championship. Unfortunately, Brown's offense took Smith by surprise, beating Smith 5-1. Colby won the overall tournament. While the Smith Lunadiscs won the Spirit Award for Pool A, Brown and Dartmouth tied for the Spirit Award in Pool B.

Spirit and good sportsmanship from all teams was evident at the event. Before each game, the teams would have a team chant that they often created themselves. However, it was no surprise that the Lunadiscs won the Spirit Award because after each game that Smith played, they would do one of two things. They would play an icebreaker game called Streetfighter, loosely based on a videogame, with the team they had just played. Or each team would write a cheer for the other team. These cheers were put to the tunes of such classics as Madonna's "Like a Prayer" and Britney Spears' "…Baby One More Time." With such an energetic and positive team spirit, the Lunadiscs are sure to finish this season strong.
