Senate met for a very full but quick meeting tonight. The Senate did not pass the proposed constitutional amendment eliminating Senate from the chartering process that has been talked about for the last few weeks, and therefore it will not be necessary for a full student body vote. Instead ORC chair Marissa Maples will be working with Tamra Bates and a senate ad-hoc committee to discuss and find solutions to some existing problems for recognized and chartered orgs. Most likely all recognized orgs will create guidelines and will also be allotted an ORC representative similar to those chartered orgs. are currently receiving. The distinction will continue that only chartered orgs receive SGA funding.

An ad-hoc committee was formed tonight for Senate to consider its own portion of the SGA Constitution, guidelines and bylaws. The committee, Nicole Martinez, Hannah Polakoff, Sai Joseph, Eleanor Farber, Sara Whiting, Sara Barz and Lindsay York will check to make sure that the Senate guidelines and bylaws are current and up to date, and make a proposal to Senate to change anything that is necessary.

The proposal to update the Smith College Republican Club charter was passed tonight, and the Celebrations Dance Company made a similar presentation to update their charter, which will be voted on next week.

Senate is planning to host a second open forum before the end of the year. This time the topic will be dining and nutrition. Guest speakers will be invited and plans are in the works, but possible dates are Monday, April 24 or Tuesday, May 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Lastly, a few exciting and important reminders. SGA election debates are Monday, April 17 at 9 p.m. in the Campus Center Carroll Room. You can vote at www.smith.edu/voting between Tuesday, April 18 and Friday, April 21. Info sessions with the candidates for the Dean of Students position are April 12, April 17 and April 18 at lunch and dinner. SGA campaigns started today. Don't forget to vote!
