Winning has never felt so good. Just ask Kim Meskimen '08. Meskimen won her first blue ribbon at the collegiate level last Saturday at the UMass show. "I see this as a mark of my improvement since beginning my training with the Smith Equestrian team," she said.
After a 14-week break, Smith started the second half of their season with a second place finish at the UMass show.
Christie Mackenzie '05, who placed first and second in her jump and flat classes respectively, used that experience to keep up her confidence which enabled her to show herself at her best.
As Mackenzie looks ahead, she knows that her work is still cut out for her. "I'm five points away [from qualifying for regional competition], so I'm going to keep riding, working out, and hoping for a good draw next Saturday! The more I ride, the better I'll be. [For next week's show] I'm really going to concentrate on getting my work on the flat as strong as possible, since that's where I'm weak at the moment," she said.
Ellyse Lasser '06 couldn't be more pleased with the team's performance this past Saturday. She was extremely excited for the two new riders on the team, who each won a second place.
She credits most of her off-season success to working out with other team members. She also rides twice as much as she did last semester. Lasser is extremely excited that the team has been doing so great this season, as a team and as individuals. She looks forward to much more of the brilliance that happened this past weekend.
Regionals will be held at Fox Meadow Farm, the Smith College Equestrian team's home, on Saturday, April 2, 2005. The show starts at 8 a.m. The team looks forward to your support during this free event and suggests that you bring your own chair.
