Dear France: What Are You Thinking
Dear France, I commend your opposition to President Bush about his aggressive, colonial approach to Iraq. Your criticism about questionable claims of weapons of mass destruction, Bush's economic and personal motivations, as well as the effects of the war on the international community were well founded.

Out of Right Field

Women's Rights Should Transcend Partisan Politics
Okay, Liberals - we've had our tiffs. I've made some generalizations, you've written some letters. But I really hope this is something we can all agree upon. In the countries that have been affected by the War on Terror, the lives and prospects for women are greatly improved.

Does Scale-Smashing Make You Feel Any Better?

Love your body day is celebrated to protest offensive, disrespectful or harmful images of women and to increase public awareness on issues such as health, body image and self-esteem. Upon first hearing about "Love Your Body Day," I experienced a curious mix of excitement and intrigue.

A More Transparent Speaker Selection Process Could Make Students More Understanding
Each year, at about this time, the commencement speaker is selected for graduation. Seniors, who have voted in the preceding months are then notified. And, as expected, some are happy, while others, are simply not. This year, there is no exception to the situation.

Public Opinion Worthy of a Few Extra Cellular Minutes

Real music ring tones accidentally resound in lecture halls, students walk absent-mindedly to class as they gab on their shiny new cellular gadgets, and our worlds come crashing down when our beloved communication devices cannot pick up signals on Smith campus.

Letter: Take Back Your Life Elsewhere

Dear Editor: When I briefly stopped by the "Love Your Body Day" event at the Campus Center last Saturday, I was heartened to see a table advertising a new "Take Back Our Lives" group for survivors of sexual violence. As I was browsing their materials, I noticed that there weren't any that pertained to relationship/intimate partner/domestic violence, and that really surprised me since sexual violence is often a major component in such situations or a precursor.

Letter: A Letter of Thanks

Dear Editors: I would like to publicly thank the Smith Student Aid Society for its ongoing financial support to students. I have received liberal allowances for books and fine arts supplies every semester of my tenure here at Smith, and certainly couldn't have made ends meet without their generous (and unconditional) assistance.

Tabula Rasa

Strengthening Video Production at Smith
I founded my first production company when I was nine years old. It only lasted through one project, but it demonstrated how improvisation and willpower can make the untouchable real. Equipped with a tape-recorder from my closet, a radio from the kitchen, a tape-recorder "borrowed" from my brother and a Casio keyboard, I was ready to realize my dreams.

A Toast! To Mediocrity!

There is a new paradigm in advertising. I am looking forward to hearing Shelly Lazarus '68 speak about it in her Commencement address. The advertising firm she heads, Ogilvy & Mather, has applied this re-imagined conceptual framework to two of its famous clients.
