Professor Promotes Art and 'Otherness'
I recently realized that all my interviewees so far have been male. The minor revelation that all my interviewees thus far have been male drove me to look for the "perfect" female professor. Tipped by a fellow Sophian writer, I chose Dana Leibsohn. Professor Leibsohn attended Bryn Mawr College, a prestigious all-women's institution, as an undergraduate.

Flu Season and Vaccines are Still Here

Despite warnings in October 2004 that flu vaccines would be in short supply this season, Smith Health Services is currently offering the shot and is recommending it for most Smith students. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the initial shortage occurred when the United Kingdom's version of the FDA, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), suspended the license of Chiron Corporation, the company that normally produces one-half of the flu vaccine supply for the United States.

Smith Students Find Love in Amherst

Some say that living in the Valley provides one with ample opportunity to meet people, and since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, it was easy to notice those who had capitalized on the theory. After all, the Valley is home to the Five Colleges. Students from each of the colleges may try their romantic luck at the other nearby colleges in the area.

Six Smith-Specific Ways to Shape up

May the countdown begin today, February 10. Thirty days remain until Spring Break, and for sea-seeking Smith students, this means 30 more days until bikinis, beaches and bathing. Thirty days to shape up Smith. Smith students who decided on Boston instead of Cancun or the North Atlantic instead of the Mediterranean for the third week of March can probably skip this motivational article, but for everyone destined for the ocean, it's time to eat well and exercise moderately so that you can feel fabulous come March.

February 10, 1959 Barbara Hill '59 was named Carnival Queen at Dartmouth Winter Carnival last weekend. She competed with 42 other girls for the title. February 12, 1971 Amherst College announced on Monday the appointment of John William Ward to succeed Calvin Plimpton as the 14th president of Amherst College.
