Allison Logan '14 was elected as the new Social Chair for the Class of 2014 earlier this semester. As Social Chair, she will be responsible for organizing events for her class year. Social Chairs create and facilitate social events such as class ice cream socials and crafts, in addition to working closely with the college archives. Social Chairs are nominated by their respective class representatives in the Student Government Association.
Why did you run for Social Chair?
I ran for this position because I really love being a part of the efforts placed into creating events. I think the little things are important like decorations and food, and I would like to help make [those] decisions. I also wanted to find a way to become more connected to my class and the people in it while also having an impact on how we interact as a whole, and how unified we are as the class of 2014.
What are some of your goals as the new Class of 2014 Social Chair? Any specific events planned?
I want to be a part of creating some of the memories we have here, helping the members of our class get to know each other better and facilitating connections with each other that will be remembered when we think of our times at Smith. Though I have become social chair pretty late in the year, I hope to begin working toward these goals.
What are some improvements and problems in the past you hope to improve?
I'm not currently aware of any problems of the past; however, I hope to help make this semester a successful one with the 2014 cabinet, bringing the class of 2014 together.
Have you held a position like this before? How do you like working with SGA?
I was the Social Chair for Ziskind last year, which is where I currently live. I really enjoyed it and had an opportunity to plan some fun events; however, this year I decided to run for Treasurer of Ziskind instead. I have only been working with SGA for about two weeks, and haven't had much exposure; however, everyone I have met so far has seemed really excited and committed to their positions and events. I am excited to work with them.
Any comments or suggestions for students to get involved?
The only way your cabinet can be successful and involved is if the members of class want to be involved as well. So my only advice is to come to events and just support each other. Get to know each other in formal and informal ways because we are truly a great class with wonderful people!
