First of all, the left has had absolutely no problem with FREQUENTLY comparing George W. Bush to Hitler for the last eight years, so I don't want to hear any whining about it supposedly being done on the other side.

More significantly, though, the comparison isn't directly with Obama, it's with the bizarrely fanatical adoration of him by the overwhelming majority of his supporters. They're the ones that are acting very much like the "Hitler Youth".

The main column is a perfect example of this. A lot of comments allude to a hope that the column is satire. However, there are too many people out there for whom Obama has become some sort of Messianic figure that it is extremely difficult to believe the column is anything but the real thing.

Obama poses a substantial danger to this country. The U.S. is already perilously close to the abyss of socialism; Obama would push it over the edge. Jimmy Carter was one of the worst Presidents we've ever had (far worse than Bush - and the economic numbers are on my side in that argument), but Obama has the potential to make Carter actually look halfway decent - no mean feat. Let's actually use our brains before we vote, people!!!

The similarity between Obama's platform and the Fascist program cannot be dismissed as glibly as Sara would like to do. Fascism was a movement of the left, not the right. (What are they teaching you kids in school these days?) You know, you're right. Hitler was an extreme racist who systematically went about the elimination of an entire class of citizens in order to give to the world what he called an ideal society built on socialist ideas. Clearly that has no relationship with Obama.

Hitler came into the political arena in the wake of an extremely unpopular government, facing a period where being proud of being German made people think you were some sort of imperialist. Clearly that has no relationship with Obama.

Uniformed youth marching in step...no, clearly there is no similarity to the HJ.

Does this mean I believe Obama will murder millions of people for ethnic cleansing? No, of course not. But it also means I'm neither ignorant of parallels in history nor incapable of seeing a pattern that is as plain as the nose on his face.

It is, in fact, so very well written, that people are wondering "is it satire." I doubt very much it is satire, but rather, it is utilizing the conservatives' own attempt to spin Senator Obama as merely an over-hyped celebrity to convey the message that the Senator's popularity is actually because people care about politics and our country.

The fact that someone like this young person can care so much about our country and our political situation as a portion of our can about their religious beliefs is refreshing, and her patriotism should be lauded.

The fact that the reactionary literalists fail to see the message and appreciate the intelligent delivery of the message only to focus on the part that is clearly a literary device to convey said message above only makes this piece all the more refreshing.
