Equestrian Ends Season as Reserve Champions, Heads to Regionals Meet

The Smith equestrian team competed last Saturday in the Hampshire and Westfield Show hosted by Hampshire and Westfield State College, where the team won 20 top-four ribbons and 27 total ribbons. The team finished as Reserve Champion High Point College for the show.
Michelle Dressner ’15 was the Reserve Champion Novice High Point Rider of the Day, and tied for the Reserve Champion Overall High Point Rider. Smith gained six first place ribbons for different events, including Dressner in Novice Equitation over Fences. Zoe Spieler ’15, Lucy McAuliffe ’12, Madeline Smart ’12 and alumnae Lizzy Jacobson and Clare Humphreys also earned first-place ribbons in their events.
Three riders took second in their events, including Dressner in Novice Equitation on the Flat, Nicole Haseltine ’13 in Open Equitation and Kristen Estes ’15 in Equitation on the Flat.
Nine riders received third place ribbons, including Lauren Hilton ’14 in Open Equitation Over Fences, Chanya Pranich ’13 in Intermediate Equitation Over Fences, Estes in Novice Equitation Over Fences, Willa Neal ’14 in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, Joanna Winkler ’12 in Novice Equitation on the Flat, Jillian Zoglio ’14 in Walk, Trot and Canter, Nandi Scherbl ’15 in Walk, Trot and Canter, Susan Liang ’13 in Walk-Trot and Jacobson in Alumni Equitation on the Fast.
The team’s two fourth-place ribbons for the show go to Caitlin Hunter ’13 and Adrienne Szamotula ’14, whose respective meets were in Open Equitation on the Flat and Novice Equitation on the Flat.
Several riders qualified for Regionals after the event, including Madeline Smart ’12 and Lizzy Jacobson. Regionals will take place March 31 in Amherst, Mass.
